Oxgall Agar is used for the identification of Candida albicans by chlamydospore production. Addition of polysorbate 80 stimulates chlamydoconidies production.

STORAGE
Store prepared media at 2-8 C protected from direct light.


SIGN OF DETERIORATION
Media should not be used if the expiry date has passed. Prepared media should not be used if there are signs of contamination or deterioration (shrinking, cracking, evaporation or discoloration).


PROCEDURE
Prior to inoculate, the prepared media should be brought to room temperature.

  1. Inoculate plates in a straight line with similar 2-3 colonies. Streak back and forth then stab across streaked lines. Cover the stab lines with a cover slip.
  2. Incubate at room temperature for 48 hours.
  3. Examine the plates microscopically.
